What is the shape of the universe? Spacetime assumes many complicated curvatures due to the clumpiness of the energy it is curved around and it's expansion through time. But even in a completely static universe with completely smooth energy densities, the universe could still be curved. It could be positively curved (the interior angles of a triangle would add up to greater than 180 degrees) or negatively curved (the interior angles of a triangle would add up to less than 180 degrees).
